Vendors use Live Rates to automatically calculate shipping costs for some of their products. Live Rates factor in the size and weight of the products being sent, how quick the shipping carrier’s service is and the distance to the shipping address that you input at checkout. For products that contain live rates, the price of shipping is calculated and added to your order cost after you input your shipping address.
Alternatively, Free Shipping is available for some products as well. The speed of the carrier that is being used is strictly dependent on the vendor you purchase from. Always reach out to the vendor if you have any questions on what type of shipping is being used to sent the product(s).
Lastly, Flat Rate shipping is a small fee that the vendor sets per product or at their store level. This is present during checkout regardless of your shipping destination.
If you purchase a perishable item, it needs to be delivered to you as soon as possible so the ingredients don’t spoil during transit. Mushrooms, meat, seafood, and other perishable foods can deteriorate very quickly if left unrefrigerated for more than a few hours, so ensuring a quick delivery, with proper packaging, is absolutely crucial. Doing so allows the ingredients to arrive still fresh as ever and ready for consumption as soon as they arrive at your door.
Due to the increased shipping volume around the holidays, carriers apply peak surcharges to all packages to manage capacity. This is why shipping can be so expensive from November-January. Unfortunately, this is out of the vendors’ control.
